The Android Market has exceeded 10 billion app downloads, with a growth rate of one billion app downloads per month.
To mark the occasion, Android is discounting certain apps to 10 cents like Glu Mobile’s Deer Hunter, Asphalt 6 HD, Color & Draw for Kids, Endomondo Sports Tracker Pro, Fieldrunners HD, Great Little War Game, Minecraft, Paper Camera, Sketchbook Mobile, Soundhound Infinity and Swiftkey X.
Android Already Took Lead
Android has reached other significant milestones before this one. Earlier this year, it became the most desired OS for consumers planning on getting a new smartphone in the next year, according to The Nielsen Company. Thirty-one percent of consumers desire the Android OS, narrowly beating the 30% who want iOS.
One surprising metric in which it isn’t winning is in ad impressions, if comments made by Rovio’s chief marketing officer are accurate. Peter Vesterbacka told Business Insider that Rovio delivers 10 billion advertising impressions each month—which, he claims, is bigger than Google’s mobile search ad impressions. Google wouldn’t comment to Business Insider.
